This class is a follow-up to Freeform Knitting ONE. You must take (or have taken an earlier version of) Workshop ONE to take this class. If you have taken an earlier version of Workshop ONE, and can refresh your memory on it, that will be okay unless you don’t remember anything. This is not a beginning knitting class. You will need to be an able knitter and to be competent to execute cast-ons, bind-offs, increases, decreases and skills such as ribbings, edgings, pattern stitches. Bring any instructions for techniques you cannot knit by heart but may want to use. Freeform Knitting TWO is designed to take you where you left off, or from what you have accomplished since the first class. Go where no one has gone before. (Sorry, I’m a Star Trek fan)
I would love for you to send me some questions that you have about Freeform Knitting before the class begins. I will use these questions as part of the class. I also plan to spend one-on-one time with each of you during the class to help you go forward with your design. Send questions to threadbenderinc@msn.com.
We will cover changing course, finishing techniques, shaping, knowing when you are finished, specifics about knitted fabrics (some of this may have been covered in the first class but deserves review) and calling it a day!
If you need a consult before or after class, you can email threadbenderinc@msn.com or call Threadbender at 616-531-6641 to schedule an appointment. There is no charge for this unless you need a lot of help.
Bring with you:
- an assortment of knitting needles in the sizes you like to use. (Re: somewhere in the neighborhood of 4’s through 8’s) in short needles, double points, or circulars. You may only need 1 set depending on the yarn you choose to work with. You don’t need to buy any before class. I favor short straight needles or double points and I use the same ones throughout a project.
- removeable stitch markers or safety pins
- a crochet hook approximately the size of your favorite sized knitting needles
- large eye yarn needle
- scissors
- notetaking supplies (there is a handout)
- Yarns and sampler you started in the previous class. Any yarns used in this class must be purchased in class or have been purchased from the Threadbender.
- Lunch if you need it
- The knitting you have done so far (it will help me help you), a variety of knitting needles, removeable stitch markers or safety pins, a crochet hook, large eye yarn needle, scissors, notetaking supplies
- a knitted garment that fits you well, like a sweater, shirt or vest if you have one, for reference. An art piece idea, sketch or just some thoughts, if you like.
- A measuring tape, straight pins
- We have a refrigerator and microwave if you want to bring a lunch, and a Keurig coffee maker, if needed. We’ll have a snack and water for you as well.
- A mug for coffee or tea
My most recent piece, ‘Controlled Chaos’, is on display at the Holland Area Arts Council, Holland MI until Dec 19. It is part of a display featuring the works of the Lakeshore Fiber Arts Guild. It is a stunning exhibit and you should try to see it. You will not be disappointed. Check for open times at hollandarts.org.
In the event of nasty weather, we will reschedule for everyone’s convenience by 8:30am the day of the workshop, so check your emails in the morning of workshop day.
